Freeview Babeshows of the Noughties

Babestation's early Freeview days are the main focus of this blog, first published by @BabeTV on his Tumblr account. The account was extraordinarily thorough and it traced numerous Babestation instances that had occurred in the past. Unfortunately, it can't be accessed anymore because the account has since been deleted. Fortunately, we were able to save a few posts, and we'll be repurposing them for you.

The First Babestation Freeview Show

The Babestation girls who had become favourites of the nighttime Freeview show were suddenly much harder to obtain for the terrestrial viewer when Party Girls ended their run on Channel 46 in March 2009. They did continue to appear on the 3am Party People show, but that was a very late (or early) start and an entirely different concept from Party Girls because Party People was still primarily a day show. Even Partyland's entry could not truly make up for the loss of Party Girls. Party Girls had introduced viewers to Babestation's most vivacious TV babes and future pervcam models, and viewers wanted those girls back. In fact, some Freeview guys and rampant tv fans even went out and bought a Sky subscription just for Babestation.

However, a full version of Babestation had been promised to the terrestrial public a few weeks after Party Girls ended. Not a low-bandwidth broadcast with a temporary set like the Channel 46 show this time. Not a babeshow where the bit rate couldn't handle it and the girls' every move would be pixelated. No light viewing glass, no bulky surround for the screen. This was going to be a full-screen broadcast that was being filmed on a large, expensive set with all the bells and whistles, including video insets.

“This was not going to be Babestation lite, running under an alias in a basement – this was going to be Babestation. Babestation 1.”

On May 12th 2009, a very windy Tuesday, a new babe channel duly surfaced on the Freeview EPG. Even though there were no listings visible, the fun was about to begin on Channel 33, which had the recognisable name Smile TV2 (the same as the former Channel 46). On May 13th, just after midnight, Babestation's complete version made its Freeview debut. Introducing the show was Babestation It-girl, Donna Duke, who was still on the mic waving off Channel 46 viewers when Party Girls abruptly came to an end two months ago due to the closing graphics routine. Geri and Megan Moore joined Donna on the momentous broadcast.

“Note the 4:3 screen format, as opposed to 16:9 Widescreen, which didn’t properly arrive until a month later, on 10th June. I say ‘properly’, because it looks like Babestation tried to implement Widescreen from the night of 3rd to 4th June. However, whilst the dimensions of the screen were amended, the actual source frame remained in 4:3, so for nearly a week the picture was horizontally stretched, and that didn’t flatter the babes at all.”
